Symptoms • Many cars show no drivability complaint when 2AAF exists only as an information or shadow record. • When supply is genuinely weak, long high-load acceleration can fade as low-side pressure falls and the HPFP no longer receives adequate feed. • Hot restarts or a low-fuel-level climb may expose a marginal in-tank pump, pickup or electrical supply. • Severe delivery loss can produce lean running, rail-pressure faults, misfires and limp mode rather than 2AAF alone. Possible Causes Separate pressure measurement from pump output and pump output from the voltage/control that creates it. • Very low fuel level, contaminated fuel or a restricted pickup/filter-regulator assembly. • Voltage drop at the in-tank LPFP supply, ground, connector or EKP pump-control path. • A biased low-pressure fuel sensor or damaged signal circuit reporting implausible supply. • A worn LPFP that needs excessive control effort or cannot maintain delivery under load. • An EKP thermal/control fault or, less commonly, a downstream leak/demand condition that makes low-side behavior implausible. Confirm adequate clean fuel and inspect the pump connector, controller area and grounds for heat, moisture or voltage-drop evidence. • 3. Log requested and actual low-side fuel pressure plus pump duty/control value where the vehicle and adapter expose them; include rail pressure to see downstream effect. • 4. If pressure reading is implausible with stable engine behavior, test the low-pressure sensor circuit against the VIN-specific diagram before condemning the pump. • 5. If actual pressure falls as control effort rises under load, test supply voltage under load and the filter/regulator path before proving LPFP capacity. • 6. Repair • Low cost: Correct low fuel level, contaminated connector contact, ground loss or an identified restriction accessible in the service path. • Medium cost: Replace a verified biased low-pressure fuel sensor or repair its supply, ground or signal circuit. • Medium cost: Repair the EKP power/control path or replace a proven thermal-failing controller with the required BMW setup procedure. • High cost: Replace the LPFP or filter-regulator assembly only after logged pressure, command and loaded-voltage evidence prove deficient delivery. After the repair, erase 2AAF, repeat the freeze-frame operating window and rescan every relevant module. Verification requires stable live data and no returning current or pending fault. Can You Drive with 2AAF? Avoid high load until delivery is verified; stop if the engine loses power in traffic, misfires heavily or there is any fuel smell or visible leak. 2AAF is best read as a three-way conversation between pressure, pump command and electrical supply; record all three before buying hardware.
