On the E90, disabling tyre pressure monitoring means adding the $2VB code to the vehicle order and then recoding the affected modules. This is not a one-line comfort coding: per the source list, the procedure returns your existing FSW/PSW coding data to factory values. Why is this heavier than the other codings? What changes here is not a parameter but the car's equipment declaration. When the vehicle order changes, the modules that depend on it must be recoded, and that recoding returns every customisation previously made in those modules to factory values. Earlier work such as digital speed, comfort close or lighting settings is lost. How is it carried out? The sequence must follow the order set out in the source list; skipping a step leaves the modules in an inconsistent state. Reverting means removing $2VB from the vehicle order, recoding the same modules and refitting the fuse. If you did not back up all five modules before starting, you cannot restore your earlier customisations, which is why a backup is not optional in this job. In the European Union the mandate began at a later date for newly registered vehicles, but where the car was type-approved with the equipment, removing it still alters the approved configuration. Do not carry out this disable if your car runs run-flat tyres. A run-flat does not visibly collapse when it loses pressure and the change in handling can be slight; the pressure monitoring system is the only way you learn the tyre is flat. Switching it off can leave you driving a damaged tyre for many miles. • Periodic inspection checks that warning lamps work correctly; a lamp permanently lit or never lit can count as a defect. • In North America some state inspections check the tyre pressure warning lamp directly. • Running underinflated heats the tyre sidewall and raises the risk of sudden failure at speed; the disable makes that risk invisible. • Restore the system before selling the car, or the buyer may face trouble at inspection or with an insurance assessment. What if the system stays on or the lamp still lights? First check whether you skipped one of the modules that needed recoding, because a DSC or instrument cluster left on its old coding keeps the warning alive. Second, read the CAS data back and confirm the $2VB code was really written into the vehicle order. Third, if your car uses the indirect system, the route to disabling it differs and pulling a fuse achieves nothing.
