BMW E90 Automatic Key Eject: KOMFORT_EJECT Coding

On the E90, having the key ejected from its slot when you stop the engine is enabled by setting KOMFORT_EJECT in the CAS module to aktiv. After coding you hold the start/stop button roughly two seconds longer, at which point the slot releases the key and pushes it out. What does KOMFORT_EJECT do? Normally you have to press the key inward and let go before the slot releases it. With this parameter enabled, CAS reads the long press as an eject request and triggers the slot mechanism directly, so the key comes out. It is a comfort setting, and it also cuts down the chance of leaving the key behind in the car. Community lists mark this parameter for the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011 model years. There is no mark for 2009, which is not proof that it fails there but shows no verified record exists. Reverting means putting the same line back to nicht_aktiv. With the function off, the key stays in the slot and you press it inward again to retrieve it; nothing else about the car's behaviour changes. When the key is ejected it comes free, and if you are not holding it, it can fall. An E90 key holds remote electronics and a rechargeable cell inside, so a drop onto a hard floor can break the remote function. Until the habit forms, make a point of catching the key with your hand. Only shut the engine down once the car has come to a complete stop. Holding the start/stop button while moving affects the steering lock and power assistance; the eject coding does not change that behaviour, it only automates the step after shutdown. What if the key is not ejected? The first thing to check is how long you held the button, because without the extra two seconds CAS treats the command as an ordinary shutdown. The second common cause is dust packed into the slot, which makes the mechanism bind. The third is a software level that simply does not carry this parameter, in which case the line never appears in the CAS data at all.
